2017 Fair Demonstration Schedule

Live and free DEMO SCHEDULE:

12:00 pm - 2:30 pm | C.C. Stern - Hand Type Casting
C.C. Stern Type Foundry will demonstrate the process of casting individual pieces of type using a replica of an early 20th century “fitters mould.” This method of type production was used from the time of Gutenberg until the 1840s and the invention of automated type casting machines.

Ongoing from 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm | IPRC - Table Platen Press
IPRC will demonstrate how to print on a table-top platen press, using handset type and engravings from the IPRC’s collection. You will learn to operate the press and leave with a lovely keepsake print, made by you!

Ongoing from 12:00 pm - 4:30 pm | Monster Songs - Screenprinting
Screenprinting from the powerhouse triple-threat Jillian Barthold (designer/illustrator/printer/+).

2:30pm - 4 pm | Artist & Craftsman Supply - Paper Marbling
Our friends from Artist & Craftsman Supply in North Portland will offer a marbling demonstration using Marabu Marbling Paints, applying colorful patterns of swirls to paper as well as an assortment of dipped objects.

4:00 - 5:00 pm | Tony Marostica - Wood Type Cutting
Come see a demonstration of wood type manufacturing using the traditional method of cutting wood with a pantograph router. Ask questions about wood type and experience how it was made first hand!

Portland Letterpress Fair

The 7th Annual Letterpress Printers Fair celebrates the historic craft of letterpress printing and the community who sustains it. Letterpress printing is one of the few remaining craft industries where its practitioners are innovating contemporary applications using centuries’ old technology. Browse goods from an array of local printers, book artists, designers, and lovers of type. Experience live printing with a steamroller and hands-on demonstrations. Try your hand at book arts! Win a unique print in our raffle! Enjoy libations and food as we inspire you with the coalescence of 500 years of printing!
